Dear 2nd Grade Students and Families,

Today would be a P.E. day if we were at school.  That makes it a great day to check out the ideas Coach Sadie posts on her blog.  Here’s the link: https://leverettpe.edublogs.org/category/second-grade/.

Here are your assignments for today.  Click on the underlined links to open each assignment.

Reading:

  1. Yesterday, you read a Focus Book.  Today, use that same Focus Book to answer the questions at the back of the book (on page 10).  You do not need to write down your answers, but I would like for you to go back to the text to support your answers and to share your thoughts with an adult.  More challenging text: Science A-Z–Amazing Cells.  Medium challenge: Science A-Z–Baobab Trees.  Less challenging text: Science A-Z–Babies and Parents.
  2. Read a good fit book for at least 20 minutes.

Writing:

  1.  Use the FOCUS BOOK Graphic Organizer  you completed yesterday to write a paragraph that responds to the focus question.  In your paragraph, try to include a topic sentence, at least three specific supporting details from the text (in your own words), and a concluding sentence.  You already wrote the topic sentence and the supporting details on yesterday’s graphic organizer.  Your job today is to connect those ideas into a paragraph with transition words and correct spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.  You may use this paper for your paragraph: Fundations Writing Paper.

Math:

  1. Complete the Math Challenge Worksheet–April 16.  Today’s assignment is more math riddles to get you thinking!
  2. Play a familiar math game -OR- go on Symphony Math or Prodigy for 20 minutes.

Social Studies and Science:

  1. Yesterday, you found 4 living things near your house.  Today, your assignment is to research ONE of those living things.  Try to find out at least 4 facts about the living thing you’re researching.  Remember, a fact is information that is true.  Use your research to make a poster to share what you learn.  Here’s a poster template you can use: Living Thing Poster Template.
  2. Continue working on the My Observation Notebook assignment to track the changes in a plant you found near your house.
