Dear 2nd Grade Students and Families,

Here are your assignments for today.  Click on the underlined links to open each assignment.

Specials:

  1. Today’s special is P.E.  Check out Coach Sadie’s blog for some ideas to help you stay physically active: https://leverettpe.edublogs.org/category/second-grade/.

Reading:

  1. Compare and contrast The Three Little Pigs and The Three Little Pigs: The Wolf’s Story: RazPlus–Three Little Pigs The Wolfs Story–Compare and Contrast.  Check out last Tuesday’s post (April 24) for a copy of the Three Little Pigs to reread, if needed.
  2. Go on Lexia for 20 minutes.

Writing:

  1. Finish writing your fairy tale.  Be sure to include vivid adjectives to describe the characters, places, and things in your story.  Examples: the blue, cloudless sky / the mischievous, little kitten / the large, red barn.  Remember, the longest part of your story should be the middle–the part when your main character tries unsuccessfully in three different ways to solve the problem.  Take your time to make your story interesting and well-written.  Here’s some paper to use, if you’d like: Fundations Paper with Drawing Space.

Math:

  1. People talk about time in a variety of ways.  Often, people use the words like past, after, and to when talking about time. For example, someone might say half past two instead of 2:30.  Someone might say ten minutes to one instead of 12:50.  Someone mights say quarter after three instead of 3:15.  Complete this assignment to match times with written expressions someone might use to express that time of day: Super Teacher Worksheets–Time Match.  Check in with an adult if you need help.
  2. Play a math game of your choice for 20 minutes.  Addition Top-It is a fun choice and can be played with a regular deck of cards with the aces used for ones and the other number cards 2-10.

Social Studies and Science:

  1. For the next two days, your assignment is to interview an adult family member to learn more about the paid and unpaid work they’ve done in their life.  Here is an interview sheet with suggested questions and spaces to write your family member’s answers: Family Member Interview–All About Work.  You may think of other questions to ask during the interview too.  Spend some time learning about a family member while also learning about ways people participate in the economy by working outside of the home and the kinds of unpaid work people do to help themselves, their families, and their society.  At the top of the interview sheet, you’ll also get a chance to read about the many jobs Ms. Gray has had in her life.
