Dear 2nd Grade Students and Families,

Good morning!  Here are your assignments for today.  Click on the underlined links to open each assignment.  I will send an email later today with a link to our 3:00 virtual class meeting.

Reading:

  1. Use the version of Living and Nonliving Things that you read yesterday.  Complete the following assignment: Reading A-Z–Living and Nonliving Things–comprehension questions.
  2. Read a good fit FICTION book of your choice for 20 minutes.

Writing: Choose 1 of the options below.

  1. OPTION 1: Think about the FICTION book you are reading now or one you finished recently.  Write an opinion letter about one of the characters in the book.  You may use this paper to help you draft your letter: Opinion Letter Template–character.  To help refresh your memory of the letters we wrote in class, here are a couple of examples: Opinion Letter Examples.
  2. OPTION 2: Revise and edit the opinion letter about a character that you wrote yesterday.  First, look at the Opinion Letter Examples.  Compare one of the examples to your piece of writing.  Did you write the same amount or more?  Look at the evidence you used.  Does it connect with and support your big idea?  Did you include 2 or more sentences to explain each piece of evidence?  Finally, read over your writing again and fix any spelling, capitalization, or punctuation errors.

Math:

  1. Complete the Math Challenge Worksheet–April 14.
  2. Play a familiar math game -OR- go on Symphony Math or Prodigy for 20 minutes.

Watch this video to learn about plant parts: https://www.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/5dea21b4-6c92-46ff-982c-8650f9429c01/think-garden-plant-structure/.  Find a flowering plant outside.  Draw the plant and label its roots, stem, leaves, and flower and write about what each part does using this sheet: Labeling the Parts of a Plant.
  2. Continue working on the My Observation Notebook assignment to track the changes in a plant you found near your house.
