Dear 2nd Grade Students and Families,

Here are your assignments for today.  Click on the underlined links to open each assignment.

Specials:

  1. Today’s special is P.E.  Check out Coach Sadie’s blog for some ideas to help you stay physically active: https://leverettpe.edublogs.org/category/second-grade/.

Reading:

  1. Compare and contrast The Three Little Pigs and The Three Little Pigs: The Wolf’s Story: RazPlus–Three Little Pigs The Wolfs Story–Compare and Contrast.  Check out last Tuesday’s post (April 24) for a copy of the Three Little Pigs to reread, if needed.
  2. Go on Lexia for 20 minutes.

Writing:

  1. Finish writing your fairy tale.  Be sure to include vivid adjectives to describe the characters, places, and things in your story.  Examples: the blue, cloudless sky / the mischievous, little kitten / the large, red barn.  Remember, the longest part of your story should be the middle–the part when your main character tries unsuccessfully in three different ways to solve the problem.  Take your time to make your story interesting and well-written.  Here’s some paper to use, if you’d like: Fundations Paper with Drawing Space.

Math:

  1. People talk about time in a variety of ways.  Often, people use the words like past, after, and to when talking about time. For example, someone might say half past two instead of 2:30.  Someone might say ten minutes to one instead of 12:50.  Someone mights say quarter after three instead of 3:15.  Complete this assignment to match times with written expressions someone might use to express that time of day: Super Teacher Worksheets–Time Match.  Check in with an adult if you need help.
  2. Play a math game of your choice for 20 minutes.  Addition Top-It is a fun choice and can be played with a regular deck of cards with the aces used for ones and the other number cards 2-10.

Social Studies and Science:

  1. For the next two days, your assignment is to interview an adult family member to learn more about the paid and unpaid work they’ve done in their life.  Here is an interview sheet with suggested questions and spaces to write your family member’s answers: Family Member Interview–All About Work.  You may think of other questions to ask during the interview too.  Spend some time learning about a family member while also learning about ways people participate in the economy by working outside of the home and the kinds of unpaid work people do to help themselves, their families, and their society.  At the top of the interview sheet, you’ll also get a chance to read about the many jobs Ms. Gray has had in her life.

Here are your assignments for today.  Click on the underlined links to open each assignment.

Writing:

  1. Begin to write another fairy tale using the plan you made yesterday. This will be your assignment for today, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Take your time to make your story interesting and well-written.  Here’s some paper to use, if you’d like: Fundations Paper with Drawing Space.

Social Studies and Science:

  1. Complete this activity (Products My Family Uses) to answer questions about products you and your family buy and use.

Dear 2nd Grade Students and Families,

Happy belated birthday to Shelby!  I’m sorry I missed your big day.  I hope it was a special one!

I hope you all enjoyed the weekend!  Here are your assignments for today.  Click on the underlined links to open each assignment.  In addition, here is a copy of the LES Get Moving Challenge to log your movement this week: LES GMC Log.  I know Coach Sadie would love to hear from each of you about the kinds of things you’re doing to stay active.

Specials:

  1. Today’s special is music.  Be sure to check out Ms. Renauld’s blog to find great ideas for musical activities you can do at home.  Here’s the link: https://hrenauld.edublogs.org/.

Reading:

  1. Read The Three Little Pigs: The Wolf’s Story (RazPlus–Three Little Pigs The Wolfs Story–O).  Ask an adult or older sibling to help you read any challenging words.  Also, notice that bold print words are defined in the glossary at the end of the book.
  2. Search for and circle adjectives in a passage from the story (RazPlus–Finding Adjectives).  Remember, adjectives are words that describe nouns.  Adjectives tell about the size, shape, color, number, texture, smell, sound, or taste of the noun they’re describing.  Adjectives can also describe a character’s personality or feelings.  Here is an example in which I’ve used bold print to mark the adjectives in the text.

Sally felt happy.  Her birthday had finally arrived.  She received a soft, brown bunny from Aunt Linda.  She also received a purple backpack, two warm sweaters, and a shiny cage to keep her bunny in at night.  Sally spent the day cuddling with her fluffy bunny and enjoying the sunny weather with her two older cousins.

Writing:

  1. Plan another fairy tale in which the main character tries to solve a problem and eventually succeeds.  Use this Fairy Tale Planning Sheet to plan your story.  Notice that there is space to describe your main character, space to plan the problem, space to plan 3 unsuccessful attempts to solve the problem, and space to plan your ending that shows how the problem gets solved.  If you’re still busily writing your fairy tale from last week, keep working on that instead.
  2. OPTIONAL CHALLENGE: Last week, you read a version of the three little pigs story told from the perspective of the pigs. This week, you are reading a version of the three little pigs story told from the perspective of the wolf.  Try to retell the story you wrote last week from the perspective of a different character in the story.  Think about how a different perspective would change the problem and the solution.

Math:

  1. Practice telling time to the nearest hour and half hour: Super Teacher Worksheets–Telling Time (Hour and Half Hour).  This time poster might help you this week, since our focus all week will be telling time: Time Poster.
  2. Go on Symphony Math for 20 minutes.

Social Studies and Science:

  1. Here’s a suggestion if you are looking for engaging science activities to do at home.  Copy and paste this URL to visit the “Science at Home” page on the Connecticut Science Center website: https://ctsciencecenter.org/scienceathome/.  There are several fun activities to do.  “Lunch Bunch” is my favorite.  You can watch videos with live animal presentations to learn more about the critters at the science center.
  2. Today’s assignment is to watch this video to learn about the difference between products and service.
